The first week of school has been packed with fun activities for your students to get to know their teachers and fellow classmates. We have completed assignments about summer vacation, our classmates and ourselves in an effort to break the ice and form friendships. We have also learned about how our own classroom works inside and out. We also taught the kids our classroom and school rules known as SOAR rules. We also reviewed all the rules for behavior in the cafeteria, hallway, recess time, bathrooms and fire drills. WHEW! That’s a lot of information to process in three days. We were even fortunate to begin our math program and log on to our Chromebooks to complete math assignments called Practice Buddies.
Next week, students will begin nightly homework. Ms. Dee and I decided to use a special take home folder this year for graded papers, as well as, a page that combines their homework with a planner sheet that relays information about upcoming events. The sheet also contains a place to communicate your student’s behavior for the day. (See photos for examples.) Please have your child complete the homework listed and sign and return the page in the special folder each day. Again, remember we do not have separate planners this year. The 30 Book Challenge is also located in the back pocket of the folder for you to fill out when your student has completed a book.
